The design of this detached house started with the premise of creating a villa-like modern ensemble that harmonizes with the surrounding built environment and its historical milieu. According to the area’s zoning regulations, new constructions must be subordinate to the architecturally and historically valuable villa already present in the area.
The architectural concept draws inspiration from the playfulness of National Romanticism while incorporating traditional building methods of the era, such as massive timber construction, natural materials, and natural ventilation.
The building features a ventilated natural stone foundation, partially housing a cold storage area beneath it. Constructed with cross laminated timber elements, the building utilizes an assisted natural ventilation system. The façades are clad in vertically arranged timber siding varying in width between floors, painted with a light linseed oil paint. The roof, including dormer windows, is made of galvanized sheet metal. The natural material palette continues indoors, with custom-made wooden furniture and wooden windows.
The house offers diverse views of the surrounding environment.
The detached house has an L-shaped, two-story design, offering diverse views of the surrounding landscape. Its character is enhanced by pointy dormer windows facing different directions and tall windows that maximize natural light. The building’s shape naturally creates a semi-private arrival courtyard and a sheltered outdoor terrace. The ground floor houses the entryway, utility spaces, and shared living and dining areas, while the upper floor contains the bedrooms and bathrooms. On the north side of the building, there is an unheated carport, with the upper-floor terrace situated on top of it.
