(The discussion will primarily be in Finnish, depending on the attendees.) Together, we’ll consider which design solutions can enhance social, physical, and psychological well-being. What role do environmental psychology and our connection to nature play in this equation? What steps can we take to promote health perspectives in architectural design?
The discussion will be introduced by architect Sofia Juntunen, whose work focuses on holistically sustainable and health-oriented design. In her master’s thesis, “A Psychologically Accessible Shelter for the Suicidal,” she examined, among other things, the effects of architecture on mental health.
The topic will be explored through the following aspects of architectural design: design in general; connection to nature and biophilic design; building location; building form and structures; perception; navigation; spaces and functions; sense of safety; light (natural light and lighting); indoor air quality; sound and acoustics; aesthetics, symbolism, and associations; colors, materials, furniture, and interior design. If any of these aspects particularly interest you, feel free to familiarize yourself with their health-related perspectives in advance and share your insights with us during the discussion!
Join us and bring a friend—light snacks and refreshments will be provided!
When: Thursday, May 7, 5–8 PM (introduction at 5:30 PM in Finnish)
Where: Mer Architects’ office – Uudenmaankatu 4 A 2
