Kehäkukka Architecture Award for the Kuusijärvi Smoke Saunas!

The Kuusijärvi public saunas were awarded today at the Apoli seminar with Vantaa's Kehäkukka Architecture Award!

The 2025 Kehäkukka Architecture Award was granted to the new service buildings at Kuusijärvi, as well as to Mer Arkkitehdit Oy and Arkkitehtuuri- ja muotoilutoimisto Talli Oy, in recognition of high-quality and sustainable architecture.
The jury praised how the new and old buildings together form an atmospheric sauna village.
The architecture is modern wood architecture drawing from Finnish tradition. The buildings use high-quality, beautiful, and durable materials. Wood has been used innovatively in many different forms and with various surface treatments.
The jury also praised the accessibility of the facilities. The washing facilities and one of the saunas are accessible.
The landscape design was also successful. The buildings have been skillfully adapted to the sloped terrain, and the dark wooden cladding blends into the surrounding nature. The meadow roofs of the buildings further enhance their integration into the landscape.

We are honored by the award and happy to have been part of designing such a unique and important place to the people of Vantaa. Thank you for the rewarding collaboration to the entire design and working group, and a special thanks to the City of Vantaa.
