Tala MER – discussion event on carbon footprint calculations

We held a discussion evening at our office on a topical issue, which was attended by about twenty interested people from different fields.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the Tala MER LCA (life cycle analysis) discussion evening!

On February 26, we hosted a discussion evening at our office on a timely topic, attended by around twenty interested participants from different fields. During the evening, we reflected on the role of energy and carbon footprint calculations in reducing carbon emissions. We concluded that the calculations do not necessarily achieve their intended purpose – that is, they do not always lead to the lowest carbon outcome in construction. The discussions highlighted areas for development, shortcomings, needed changes in legislation, and also concrete steps that can already be taken to reduce carbon emissions from construction. For example, a megatrend should be promoting lighter and more flexible renovation practices, as well as valuing existing buildings, optimizing the use of the current building stock, and implementing demand-based ventilation.

By relying on researched knowledge, we can confidently challenge established practices and promote more sustainable solutions. Change requires curiosity, responsibility, and collaboration, and this evening reinforced exactly that.

It was an interesting evening, and it gave us renewed motivation to advance better solutions in our work.
