The planetary boundaries model defines nine limits describing Earth’s carrying capacity within which humanity can continue to develop and thrive in the future.
In 2009, Johan Rockström, director of the Stockholm Resilience Centre, led a group of 28 internationally recognized researchers tasked with identifying nine areas that regulate Earth’s balance. The researchers proposed quantitative thresholds which, if not exceeded, allow humanity to continue its development and well-being into the future. Crossing these thresholds increases the risk of large-scale, abrupt, and irreversible changes to our environment. The planetary boundaries framework has generated great interest among researchers, policymakers, and environmental organizations.
Mer Arkkitehdit is organizing a hands-on mini-seminar on “Planetary Boundaries – from the perspective of the construction industry” on June 18 from 5 to 8 PM. The seminar will be led by M.Sc. and sociodrama trainer (TEP/NBE) Marjut Partanen-Hertell, who has worked for nearly 40 years in environmental administration in Finland and internationally.
The seminar will include simulations, so participants must arrive promptly and be prepared to stay for the entire event. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
The first 15 registrants can participate! The event is free of charge.
