The book is based on the collaboration between architectural historian Panu Savolainen and photographer Aleks Talve. Savolainen’s text and Talve’s photographs form an intertwined narrative spanning from Stone Age dwellings to future utopias and dystopias. The book explores questions such as where Finland’s first building was, whether architecture is a form of expression unique to humans, and when Finnish architecture might ultimately disappear. It examines architectural history in relation to current issues like climate change, biodiversity, resource use, and the shift in focus from new construction to the repair and maintenance of existing buildings. The accessible text and striking photographs open architecture in a new way.
